City centre scale model opens to visitors

What will the city centre of Tampere look like in the future? What is being built right now, and where? At open doors event, Tampere residents will have the chance to find out about current development projects and discuss construction, transport, parks, streets and detailed and master planning with planning specialists. On display are both ongoing construction sites and plans for the coming years, as well as infill development. 

As in previous years, the event offers a relaxed overview of the changes taking place in the city. Coffee will be served to the first 100 visitors.

As part of the event, the scale model of the city centre in the Siluetti exhibition space will be open for everyone to explore. The model covers a total area of 8.4 m² and is updated annually with the latest plans. The buildings in the model are shown in white, whilst future plans at different stages are shown in yellow. The scale model provides a clear overview of how the city centre is developing.

A relaxed atmosphere and leisurely conversations

You can come along whenever it best suits you. There is no set programme for the event; instead, you can explore urban planning at your own pace and according to your own interests. Children are also catered for with their own building activities. The Public Participation Designer designer encourages people to take part in the event with an open mind and without any pressure:

–Every year, the event has had a relaxed atmosphere and unhurried discussions. You don’t need to be a specialist in urban planning or development – there are no stupid questions or silly comments at this event. Even for specialists, it has been rewarding to take a moment to reflect on shared issues, explains Eliisa Haanpää, a Public Participation Designer from the City of Tampere.
