The city is currently updating the feasibility study for the renovation of the market hall. The study will set out in more detail the technical solutions, costs and arrangements to be put in place during the renovation. The updated assessment is due to be finalised in late 2026.
To support the preparations for the refurbishment, a separate questionnaire will be sent to traders this autumn to identify, amongst other things, any potential need for temporary premises whilst the refurbishment is underway. As the project preparations progress, the city will assess implementation and ownership options for the future of the market hall.
The aim is to ensure that the market hall remains a vibrant, attractive venue that serves the city’s residents for decades to come. The hall currently houses over 30 cafés, restaurants and shops. The refurbishment will safeguard the operating conditions of this unique and much-loved landmark well into the future.
– Tampere Market Hall is much more than just a building. It is a meeting place, part of the city’s identity and an important business environment for dozens of entrepreneurs. The aim of the preparatory work now under way is to find solutions that will ensure the market hall’s vitality and appeal for future generations as well,” says Deputy Mayor Jaakko Mustakallio.
