Tampere promotes equality and equity through wide-ranging cooperation

The Equality and Non-Discrimination Working Group supports the City of Tampere’s aim of making Tampere a more equitable, accessible and equal place for all residents. It brings together a broad range of elected representatives, members of various councils and consultative bodies, and city specialists from different service areas.

The Equality and Non-Discrimination Working Group promotes the realisation of equality, non-discrimination, barrier-free access and inclusivity in the city’s services. It supports the achievement of the objectives set out in the city’s equality and non-discrimination plan, as well as the implementation of the wellbeing plan.

The working group comprises representatives from all council groups, representatives of the Youth Council, the Senior Citizens’ Council, the Disability Council, the Immigrants’ Council, the Roma Working Group and the Children’s Parliament, as well as specialists from the city’s various service areas.

– It is important that we carry out this work together with the people of Tampere in as inclusive a manner as possible. Issues of equality and non-discrimination have a broad impact on the everyday lives of city residents. Everyone has equal opportunities to participate and use the city’s services. Tampere is truly a city for everyone, says Anne-Mari Jussila, chair of the Working Group and Deputy Mayor for Cultural and Educational Services.

The City of Tampere has had an Equality Working Group since 2022. The current Working Group will continue this work during the 2026–2029 council term. The working group, which meets four times a year, held its first meeting on 3 September 2026, and Antti Asp was elected as vice-chair.
