Survey: The Tampere.Finland app is easy to use

The City of Tampere surveyed users' opinions on the city app. This news article presents the key development suggestions raised in the survey and responses to them.

Users of the Tampere.Finland app describe it as easy to use and useful.  The City of Tampere collected feedback on the app between 21 May and 1 June 2026. Of the respondents, 79% found the app easy to use, and 91% rated it as useful. The Tampere. Finland app has been downloaded over 274,000 times and has approximately 25,000 daily users.

– Thank you to everyone who responded to the survey. Our goal is to make the app as user-friendly and useful as possible, so all feedback is valuable and helps us make the app even better, says Project Manager Anni Joela.

The city app includes a wide range of features. According to respondents, the most useful are special offers in the city centre, the Events and Attractions section, and the public transport route planner with nearby stops.

Ninety per cent of respondents felt that the app already included the features they need, although several development suggestions were also put forward in the open feedback.

This article highlights the most important suggestions and provides responses to them. The responses are given by Project Manager Anni Joela.

What was requested

Suggestion: Could the “Events” section more clearly highlight daily events and content aimed at seniors?

Response: Thank you for your suggestions. The information in the “Events” section is automatically retrieved via an electronic interface from the tapahtumat.tampere.fi event calendar. Together with the app provider, we can explore whether events for the current day could be highlighted more clearly.

The event calendar already allows event organizers to specify the target audience for an event when submitting a listing. Unfortunately, target audience information is sometimes filled out in a general way, which means that other listings end up mixed in with those intended for pensioners, for example. The city does not edit event organisers’ listings.

Request: I’d like to be able to buy different types of tickets more easily and check the opening hours of swimming pools.

Response: We plan to add a service to the app that will allow users to purchase swimming pool tickets and check swimming pool hours in the future. We also aim to add the option to purchase museum tickets to the app at a later date.

Suggestion: Could the app include the option to buy Nysse tickets or load a travel card?

Response: We have looked into this request thoroughly, as many users have suggested it. Unfortunately, this feature will not be added, as the implementation and payment processing costs for ticket sales would be so high that the price of a Nysse ticket purchased through the Tampere.Finland app would be significantly more expensive.

Request: Could the app provide information about traffic in the city centre, road construction sites, and alternative routes?

Response: This feature is already in the works.

Request: I’d like to be able to choose more specifically which notifications the app sends, for example, only about certain traffic accidents.

Response: We receive information about traffic accidents automatically in text format, not as coordinates. For this reason, we are unable to limit accident notifications to a specific area. In the notification settings, you can select notifications about special offers, traffic, and roadwork.

Request: Could we get alerts, for example, about new offers?

Response: We’ll look into this with the app provider.

Request: I would like to follow pollen forecasts.

Response: This feature is already available in the app. On the home screen, tap “Air Quality” > “Pollen”

Request: I’d like a feature that shows what’s nearby based on my current location.

Response: This feature is also available. Click “Visit Tampere Tips” and then “View on Map” at the bottom.
