Cultural work in residential areas is carried out through collaboration
Alongside the project, a variety of new activities have been organized, such as community cultural events in Hervanta. Three community art groups have been active in the districts since the fall of 2025, and the activities will continue at least until the end of this year. These activities have brought art closer to everyday life and invited people of different ages and backgrounds to come together.
Surveys and meetings have been used to identify the needs and wishes of Tampere residents, some of which have already been put into practice. For example, much-anticipated film screenings have been organized at the Tesoma Wellbeing Centre, art has been created for electrical cabinets in Hervanta and other areas, and art workshops held during school breaks have offered activities without the commitment of a long-term hobby. Many residents’ wishes relate to recreational facilities or specific activities that would be nice to have close to their own neighbourhood.
"West-Tampere should get a practice space for music. It would also be nice to have our own neighbourhood festival where up-and-coming bands could perform. I’d be interested in participating in intergenerational cultural events.”
The responses to the surveys highlight the idea that culture and the arts play a role in enhancing the livability and sense of community in the area. Many hope for programmes in local parks, for example, or dream of community centres open to everyone and filled with activities.
"It would be nice to be a part of something bigger by making my own small contribution, for example, by adding a detail or a piece to an artwork as I pass by. I would especially like to see art beautifying my surroundings. I’m also interested in art that helps me experience or see my surroundings in a new way.”
Moving forward, the model for cultural activities in residential areas project will be systematically developed further in collaboration with various partners so that culture can reach even more Tampere residents and enrich daily life across the city.
