The results of the joint application process for post-basic education were published on 11 June 2026. There were 1400 spots available at the City of Tampere’s high schools.
– Interest in the city’s high schools remained high. Pyynikki Upper Secondary School, which moved to the city centre at the beginning of the year, was a particular draw. The school’s appeal is also evident in the fact that about 40 percent of the students starting there are from outside the city, says Mari Aalto, Executive director of upper secondary education.
The City of Tampere’s high schools offer five national special programs. These special programs attracted a large number of applicants. A new English-language high school program is launching, with 20 new students starting. Students from 12 different nationalities were accepted into the program.
Students will be notified of their acceptance directly through Opintopolku. Opintopolku is also used to invite students from the waiting list if study places become available. High schools follow this waitlist system, and students cannot be admitted outside of the system. The waitlists remain valid until 14 August 2026.
