Outdoor and hiking services to be developed in Kaukajärvi, Hervanta and Peltolammi – Survey open throughout May

The City of Tampere is developing outdoor and hiking services across the city and invites residents and other users of the areas to take part in the planning. In 2026, particular focus will be placed on the areas of Kaukajärvi, Hervanta and Peltolammi.

The city’s aim is to improve existing outdoor and hiking services and to develop new routes and rest areas. Opportunities for outdoor activity, recreation and experiences in nature are to be offered year-round and in an easily accessible way. To support the planning work, views and development ideas are now being collected from residents and other users of outdoor and hiking services. The experiences and wishes shared will help to target development measures effectively.

Feedback is being collected via an online survey, where respondents can comment on both existing and potential new outdoor and hiking services. Responses are given by marking locations on a map. The survey also asks about aspects of outdoor recreation that are personally important to respondents. Participants may also provide open-ended feedback if they wish. Completing the survey takes approximately 5–10 minutes, and it is available in Finnish and English.

The survey is open from 4 to 31 May 2026. The results will be used in the planning of routes and rest areas in the target areas. A summary of the results will be published during summer 2026.

– It is worth responding to the survey, as the valuable information it provides on the needs related to outdoor and hiking services will genuinely be used in local planning. In previous surveys, there have been clear wishes for more trails and especially for more rest areas located closer to users. By responding, everyone has a very direct and concrete opportunity to influence development, says Petri Mäkelä, Nature Services Manager at EcoFellows Ltd.

The development of outdoor and hiking services is guided by the City of Tampere’s Outdoor and Hiking Service Programme 2026–2035, approved by the Housing and Real Estate Committee in December 2025. The programme aims to ensure well-maintained and accessible outdoor and hiking services close to all residents of Tampere, while promoting health and wellbeing. Responsibility for organising the services lies with the city’s Property Management unit, and the services are implemented by EcoFellows Ltd.
