€15,000 in one-off cultural grants – applications open for projects activating the Culture District in Tampere’s western city centre

The City of Tampere has allocated a separate budget of €15,000 for one-off cultural grants to support activities that enliven the Culture District area in 2026. Applicants may apply for co-funding up to a maximum of €3,000 for projects that offer publicly accessible cultural content within the Culture District.

The City of Tampere and a wide range of local stakeholders are collaborating to enhance the appeal of the western downtown area and highlight its unique atmosphere and range of services.

One-time grants targeted at the western city center support the launch of a new Culture District initiative. Funded by the Pirkanmaa Regional Council, the Culture District’s Creative Industry Incubators Supporting the Revitalization of Tampere’s Western City Center project focuses on developing Tampere’s western city center. The City of Tampere and a variety of local actors collaborate to strengthen the area’s appeal and highlight its unique atmosphere and range of services.

The Culture District project has two main focus areas: the digital incubator combines digital development with the physical environment, while the second incubator focuses on urban space development in the western city center.

The goal is to create an area where both Tampere residents and visitors enjoy spending time and repeatedly use its services.

Developing the Area’s Attractiveness Through Cross-Sector Collaboration

The vitality of Tampere’s city centre is being strengthened through multidisciplinary collaboration. Cultural sector operators now have the opportunity to apply for funding for activities taking place in the western city centre between 1 April and 31 October 2026.

A dedicated allocation of €15,000 has been reserved in the city’s one-off cultural grants budget for this purpose. The maximum grant for a single project is €3,000.

This special allocation supports events and projects that complement local cultural offerings in the western city centre.

Funding is granted for non-profit cultural activities

One-time grants may be applied for by associations, non-profit organizations, working groups, independent producers, and artists. Funding is granted only for non-profit activities, meaning it cannot be applied for business operations or sales promotion.

Applications for the special appropriation are open from 1 April to 30 September 2026, and the event to be funded must take place between 1 May and 31 October 2026. The application period for the one-time grants is continuous. Applications must be submitted no later than 14 days before the event/project is carried out—preferably already two months in advance.

Applicants must have their own financial contribution to carry out the activity. Volunteer work is also accepted as part of this self-financing share. More information is available on the one-time grants webpage.

In the “Other relevant information” section of the application form, applicants should write “Culture District” so we know the application concerns the special appropriation for revitalizing the western city center. When planning the event, applicants should take into account the processing time of applications and the possible timeframe for organizing the event.

The granted funding will be paid after the event has taken place, based on a submitted financial and activity report. Reporting must be completed in accordance with the criteria for awarding one-time cultural grants within two months of the event
