Tampere provides assistance to Ukraine, aid to the twin city of Kiev

The city of Tampere will provide a total of €30,000 in aid to its Ukrainian twin city, Kiev. The decision was made by the City Board at its meeting on March 2, 2026. With this decision, Tampere will continue its support for Ukraine and Ukrainians amid the humanitarian crisis caused by Russia's war of aggression.

The Ukrainian government, the Ukrainian Embassy in Finland, and Ukrainian cities have appealed to the international community for help. The effects of the war, which has already lasted four years, continue to be significant, especially for the civilian population. In addition to assistance in the energy sector, Tampere's twin city Kiev is in need of hygiene and hospital supplies, among other things.

The City of Tampere and its group companies have made several monetary and material donations to Ukraine, and especially to Kiev, during the years of war. The aid package that has now been decided upon will be used to purchase €20,000 worth of energy equipment and €10,000 worth of hygiene and hospital supplies for Kiev.

In addition to the city, Tampereen Energia, Tampereen Energia Sähköverkko, Tammenlehväsäätiö, and TuomiLogistiikka are also participating in the donation. The friendship city cooperation between Tampere and Kiev began in 1954.
