International top-level disc golf returns to Tampere – Finland to host the European Championships 2027

Tampere will host the European Disc Golf Championships following a successful World Championship project.

The European Frisbee Golf Championships will be held in 2027 at the Tampere Frisbee Golf Center. The four-day championship will be held from 1 to 4 July 2027. Europe's best male, female, and junior players will compete for the European Frisbee Golf Championship on the challenging course at the Tampere Frisbee Golf Center.

Jussi Meresmaa, who also organized last year's historic World Disc Golf Championships, will serve as the event director for the European Championships.

– The World Championships created unprecedented excitement around disc golf, and more than a million people followed the event in Finland. Now we have another opportunity to showcase our expertise in organizing prestigious competitions. The European Championships are the most significant disc golf event in Europe, attracting over 150 top players from more than 25 countries, says Jussi Meresmaa.

– Finland has historically been very successful in the European Championships, and I expect this success to continue. I have been closely involved in the development of disc golf for over 20 years, and I am delighted to see that it has become one of Finland's most successful sports, all sports considered.

After a successful World Championship project, the city of Tampere will now host the European Championships.

– Tampere is a proud pioneer of disc golf in Europe, and we are excited to bring the European Championships to the city. We will continue to develop top conditions for the sport, says Jaakko Mustakallio, Deputy Mayor of Tampere.

The situation for the European Championships, which are held every two years, is particularly exciting for Finland, as Eveliina Salonen and Niklas Anttila are the defending champions. The 24-year-old Anttila is aiming for his third European title on home turf.

Finland has hosted the European Championships twice. In 2005, the competition was held in Nokia and Tampere, and in 2016 in Oulu. Finland has dominated the medal table at the European Championships in recent years.

Frisbee golf is governed by the European Disc Golf Federation (EDGF), which is the international sports organization responsible for the European administration of the sport.
