Encore! – Classics and contemporary art from the collections opens at the Tampere Art Museum 7 February 2026

The collection exhibition Encore! offers audiences a unique opportunity to experience works by significant classical artists alongside compelling contemporary art. Spanning all three floors of the museum, the exhibition presents works from the collections of the Tampere Art Museum and the City of Tampere by nearly 90 artists, ranging from the 1810s to the 2020s. On display are paintings, sculptures, prints, photography, and media art.

The exhibition moves from the moonlit landscapes of the early Golden Age by Hjalmar Munsterhjelm to recent acquisitions in contemporary art, including Kim Simonsson’s moss girl. For the first time, a substantial selection of works from Tampere City Hall is also publicly accessible.

The exhibition narrative is built around central themes in Finnish art. The upper floors focus on popular subjects of the 19th and 20th centuries—such as landscapes, rural life, depictions of the people, Kalevala interpretations, portraits, still lifes, and urban scenes—presented in dialogue with contemporary works. The ground floor highlights contemporary art that explores human relationships, encounters, and solitude.
