Christmas Post to the Elderly Campaign collected over 6,200 cards in Tampere

During the darkest time of the year, the Christmas card campaign gathered 6204 cards for older people in Tampere. Cards bringing Christmas cheer will be distributed to older people in home care and residential services before Christmas.

As part of the Christmas Post to the Elderly campaign, Christmas cards were collected for older clients in home care and residential services. In Tampere, the cards gathered will be distributed to recipients before Christmas through residential service units, home care, local service centres and other services for older people.

– We would like to warmly thank all Tampere residents who brought Christmas joy: both those who made the cards and the local service centres, meeting places, museums and cultural venues that acted as collection points, says Piia Karkkola, Planner at the City of Tampere.

A nationwide campaign collected over 120,000 Christmas cards

The Christmas Post to the Elderly campaign was organised by the community of creative caring, Siskot ja Simot, together with its partners. The campaign ran from 3 November to 4 December 2025 in a total of 175 localities.

During the campaign, more than 120,000 Christmas cards were collected across Finland.

– The number of cards is remarkable. It shows people’s willingness to bring joy to older people, to take part in communal acts of kindness and to share festive cheer, says Hanna Simola, Executive Director of Siskot ja Simot.

– People of all ages took part in the card collection, and for many families or communities, participating has already become a cherished tradition, she adds.
