The Christmas at the Palace exhibition and guided tours introduce visitors to 19th-century Christmas foods, decorations, gifts, and celebrations. What did Christmas taste like, and how were the homes of wealthy families decorated for Christmas? How was time spent during the Christmas holidays? What kinds of gifts might the von Nottbecks have given each other, for example?
You can also enjoy the winter atmosphere in the palace courtyard, as the park path between Tallipiha and Milavida is decorated with nostalgic seasonal lighting. In the Christmas Tree Park, you can meet the inhabitants of the forest: bears, deer, foxes, hares, and birds have arrived to celebrate Christmas with the forest animals. The Christmas Forest was created in collaboration with Tampere Festival of Light.
The exhibition includes a rich accompanying program: themed tours, craft workshops, and various events such as concerts and Christmas market. On Sunday, November 23, Liisa Väisänen will give a lecture on celebrations during the darkest time of the year, both in Finland and around the world. The Reliikki cultural association is organizing the Four Nights Until Christmas event in Näsinpuisto Park on December 20.
