Tampere drew up its first digital vision

The vision extending to 2035 reflects the city leadership’s shared view on how Tampere intends to make use of the opportunities offered by digitalisation.

The vision emphasises personalised, proactive, and humane digital services.

According to the Digital Vision, Tampere is a city of action – intelligently digital and digitally equal by 2035. Digitalisation will support the lives of people living and moving around Tampere, the businesses and communities in the area and the City of Tampere's own operations.

In the Tampere of the future, the digital and the physical will complement each other. Services will be proactive and personalised, the city will be an attractive platform for collaboration and the City of Tampere employees will use digitalisation intelligently.

Leading digital transformation together

The Digital Vision is the city's first. As technological development accelerates, the city's top management recognised the need for a shared vision of what Tampere is aiming for with digitalisation in the longer term.

– The Digital Vision presents a shared vision of the direction of development, which will be pursued through the concrete themes of the digital roadmap. Digitalisation and the use of artificial intelligence are present in the daily work of both employees and management, says Juha Yli-Rajala, Group Chief Executive Officer.

Digitalisation enables change in the city's services and operations, but change will not happen without change leaders. In Tampere, the management of the service areas and the group administration have understood their role as implementers of the digital vision. A comprehensive training package on leading digital transformation has also been organised for senior management as part of the Renewing Tampere project.

– Tampere’s digital vision reflects the city’s own character – it is bold and distinctive. Equally valuable as the vision itself has been the process through which it was created, says Maria Nikkilä, Director of Digitalisation and ICT Group.

According to Nikkilä, the leaders of the city's different functions have come together to discuss how to lead the digital transformation and the goals Tampere wants to achieve.

– A vision created together guides our everyday work and sets clear goals for it, she continues.

A digital roadmap towards the vision

In addition to the vision, the city has updated its digital roadmap. The digital roadmap brings together the city's digital development plans for the next four years. Tampere is moving towards the digital vision through the digital roadmaps.
