Traffic arrangements for the Basketball European Championships 27.8.–3.9.2025
The 2025 European Basketball Championship will be played at the Nokia Arena in Tampere. A large crowd is expected for all matches, so in order to ensure a smooth and safe event, some changes to the traffic arrangements will be made in the areas around the arena and in the Ratina and Kyttälä.
Extensive traffic closures due to special arrangements for the European Basketball Championships will begin as follows:
Fri 29.8. extensive closure begins at 6:30 p.m.
Sat 30.8. extensive closure begins at 12:00 p.m.
Mon 1.9. extensive closure begins at 6:00 p.m.
Wed 3.9. extensive closure begins at 6.30 p.m.
If necessary, the police may also order extensive closures during the event.
Extensive closures will restrict traffic around Nokia Arena
From Ratina, traffic will be restricted at the intersection of Vuolteenkatu and Hatanpään valtatie, with motor vehicle access from Tampereen valtatie or Hatanpään valtatie closed via Vuolteenkatu to Sorinsilta, Kalevantie, Rautatienkatu and Sorinkatu. You can drive to Rautatienkatu via either Suvantokatu or Verkatehtaankatu.
Rautatienkatu will be closed south of Suvannonkatu, allowing motor vehicle traffic to access Hatanpään valtatie via Otavalankatu, Tuomiokirkonkatu, Verkatehtaankatu, and Aleksanterinkatu.
When approaching from the direction of the Tampere University, motor vehicles are not allowed to drive to Vuolteenkatu, Sorinkatu and Rautatienkatu. Traffic on Kalevantie is directed via Kanslerinrinte to Ratapihankatu. When driving along Kanslerinrinne from Ratapihankatu, turning is only permitted in the direction of Kaleva.
On Sorinkatu, motor vehicles will be restricted from the junction of Tampereen valtatie. Residents and maintenance vehicles are allowed to drive into the yards and parking spaces of properties and the arena car park.
A separate area will be set aside for wheelchair-accessible taxis near the Sorinkatu lift access for dropping off and picking up customers. However, there are limited parking spaces on Sorinkatu.
The traffic changes will also affect the route arrangements for Nysse, with exceptional routes being in force from 11.30 to 00.00 on the days of basketball games.
The pedestrian and cyclist lane on the Sorinsilta towards the Nokia Arena will be converted into a pavement during the closures. Unnecessary traffic in the area should also be avoided outside the closure period. The arena area is best accessed on foot.
