Three different types of cargo bikes are available for rent at both locations. All bikes are electrically assisted. The bikes can be rented for 1-14 days.

In West Tampere, the cargo bike rental service is provided by Lootabikes in cooperation with the city of Tampere. The bike rental point is located in Epilä at the premises of Lootabikes.

The rental service is a continuation of a few-month trial in the summer of 2024.

– Last year, the bikes were well-served for different purposes. In addition to children, they were used to transport moving loads, shopping and equipment for various nature and family trips. It's great that this year the bikes will be in use all summer and that as many people as possible will be able to enjoy them," says Henri Laine from Lootabikes.

Rentals will start on 22 April, but you can already make reservations by phone and email. From next week, bookings will also be taken via the online booking system.

A cargo bike is one way to reduce the need for a car. Low rental prices are aimed at lowering the threshold for trying a cargo bike for everyday journeys. The electric bike in the picture can also be rented from Vuores without a trolley.

In Vuores, the rental service is self-service

In Vuores, the rental of shared cargo bikes has continued throughout the winter. The bikes have now been fitted with summer tyres.

In Vuores, the rental service is self-service. The bikes are rented using the Lainappi app. The service is provided by Willari and Lainappi in cooperation with the city of Tampere.

– Expectations for the bike season are high. The summer season offers a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and get around more by bike. We hope that people will take the time to familiarise themselves with the Vuores self-service concept in a calm and careful manner, as the service brings ease and flexibility to their everyday lives. We wish everyone who rents a bike a pleasant cycling experience, says Annika Viiala from Willari.

The normal rental prices in both Vuores and Epilä are 15 euros per day and 60 euros per week.

Renters are invited to share their experiences of using the cargo bike

The rental experiments are part of the City of Tampere's Carbon Neutral Actions development programme's sharing economy experiment, which promotes the shared use of goods and transport. Vuores and Tesoma and its surrounding areas are the programme's target areas.

Shared cargo bikes have been identified as a potential way to reduce the need for private cars for transporting goods and children, for example.

The City of Tampere is cooperating with the University of Tampere in research on rental experiments. Renters of cargo bikes will be asked to answer short background information and feedback questionnaires at the time of rental.

The bicycle rental trials will run until the end of October 2025.
