Financial aid options in summer

Are you unsure what financial aid you are eligible for during the summer? Contact Kela's customer service in good time and find out what financial aid options are available to you during the summer.  

The housing supplement for student financial aid is paid when you are eligible for student financial aid. If you have the opportunity to study during the summer, you can apply for student financial aid and the housing supplement even in the summer. You must apply for summer student financial aid separately from Kela. When applying for student financial aid, be sure to consider the number of months of student financial aid you have available so that they do not run out.

In principle , general housing allowance is not granted if you are eligible for the housing supplement for student financial aid. If you continue the same studies in the autumn, you cannot receive general housing allowance for the summer either. However, you can check this with Kela's customer service.

You can apply for social assistance if you are unable to secure your livelihood by other means. When granting social assistance, the student loan granted in the previous semester is counted as income, even if you have not withdrawn it. If you are not sure whether you are eligible for social assistance, it is better to apply just to be safe than to risk not receiving any support.

What to do if you have difficulty paying your rent

Contact your landlord as soon as possible, preferably before your rent payment is overdue. Find out if you can set up a payment plan for your rent. Landlords prefer to agree on a payment plan rather than sending you reminders. If you can't come up with a solution on your own, ask for help in resolving your situation.

Remember! Do not give notice on your apartment until you have explored all your options and know of a more affordable housing alternative.

If you have already applied for all other benefits and received decisions on them, but you are still having financial difficulties, you can apply for supplementary and preventive social assistance from the Wellbeing Services County for Pirkanmaa. Be sure to provide a comprehensive description of your situation and clearly justify your application, as these factors will influence the decision on your application.

Students looking for housing in Tampere

In Tampere, student housing is provided by Tampere Student Housing Foundation TOAS and Pirkan Opiskelija-asunnot Oy POAS. However, there are many students looking for housing in the late summer, so it is worth applying for housing from other landlords as well. The Finnish Association for the Welfare of Older Adults's home repair advisory service helps people over 65 in assessment of repair and modification needs for older people’s homes, support in carrying out renovations, and assistance with applying for grants.

For repairs that improve the accessibility of your home and are necessary to make living at home safe and healthy, you can get a government repair grant.

The City of Tampere does not provide services for the elderly, nor does the city's housing consultation provide housing assessments or influence the choice of tenants in housing for the elderly.
