Mayor Ilmari Nurminen

The mayor of Tampere is Ilmari Nurminen (SDP).

Ilmari Nurminen (born 1991 in Vammala) is a Finnish social democratic politician and the mayor of Tampere. He entered national politics from the Pirkanmaa constituency in 2015 after being elected to the Parliament, where he served for ten years, until 2025.

Nurminen holds a Bachelor's degree in Administrative Sciences from the University of Tampere. At the beginning of his political career, he was involved in local politics in Sastamala, serving as deputy chair of the city council, and later in Tampere, where he served as chair of the city council from 2021 to 2025.

Nurminen was elected mayor of Tampere in June 2025. As mayor, he has placed particular emphasis on equality, the development of services for the elderly, sustainable urban policy, and strengthening the well-being of Tampere residents.
