Winter life in Suolijärvi nature tour

  • Date and time: Saturday 28 February at 13-16
  • Meeting place: Suolijärvenkatu 5, next to Kuikka Cafe

We will go on a nature tour to Suolijärvi to find out how nature survives in winter. Although winter conditions are challenging, animals and plants adapt to them in different ways. On the trip, we will learn about animal signs and tracks and how plants hibernate. We will learn to observe nature and its species. Finally, we will go to the Suolioja campfire site to enjoy snacks and the glow of the fire. We will mainly walk along a nature trail for a total distance of about 3 km, partly on uneven terrain. The trip is not accessible.

English speakers are warmly welcome. The main language on this tour is Finnish, but some of the content is possible to translate to English. Read the tour description to prepare accordingly.

Be sure to wear warm clothing. It is often windy at the campfire site, and layering will keep you warm. Wool socks, sweaters, thick gloves, and winter boots will ensure that you can enjoy the winter nature. Bring a snack, a water bottle, a seat pad, and, if you wish, a warm drink in a thermos. Binoculars and a magnifying glass are also useful items to bring on the trip.

Your guide will be environmental biologist and biology teacher Tuomas Lilleberg. Please contact Tuomas if you have any questions ([email protected]) and if you are late for the trip, call Tuomas at 050 405 5581.
