Personal Guidance in Education and Job Seeking

The International Tampere Skills Centre provides support and guidance for work and study for immigrants residing in Tampere. The working rationale of the Skills Centre is enhanced multi-professional co-operation, whereby experts work across sectoral lines on one platform. Skills Centre's activities aim to speed up immigrants' educational and employment paths and facilitate their access into the labor market in the Pirkanmaa region. The Skills Centre also provides counselling and advice to local employers, who are recruiting or looking for international talents.

Visiting the International Tampere Skills Centre during Covid-19 pandemic

Currently International Tampere Skills Centre’s customer service operates according to a multi-service, or hybrid, model. In this multi-service model customers are being served both by phone and email, as well as face-to-face at the Skills Centre’s premises. The International Tampere Skills Centre is located at Rautatienkatu 10, Tampere.

If you want to see a Professional Coach or Business Coordinator in person, you should book an appointment beforehand. You can do this by contacting the employee in question or calling the Skills Centre’s Lobby, tel. 041 730 1470. Alternatively, you can send an email to the Skills Centre’s email address, [email protected]

Walk-in-service is currently offered at the Skills Centre’s lobby, at Rautatienkatu 10, 1st floor. The Skills Centre’s lobby is open on weekdays from 9am to 4pm. Walk-in-service is mainly for those customers who are unable to use online services. Please visit the lobby by yourself when possible, without accompanying family members.

Services available at OSKE:

Professional (OMA) coaching

• Professional (OMA) coach provides personal service to customers in job seeking and education.

• Integration processes are part of the service: evaluation of service needs and initial assessment, decision making processes (e.g pay subsidy) and redirection to relevant employment and educational services.

Job seeking services

• Business Coordinators help customers by seeking employment opportunities and by mapping the needs of enterprises in the labor market.

• Business Coordinators network with local enterprises in order to find employment opportunities for the customers.

• Business Coordinators help local enterprises during the process of employing immigrant customers.

• Career Boost -services are available for highly educated or quickly advancing customers.

Competence mapping

• Competence mapping is a five-day-long service that includes education and career guidance, evaluation of skill level in Finnish language and help in recognizing one’s own professional know-how. The customer is provided with a continuation plan.

• Competence mapping provided by a special education teacher is also available.

• The competence mapping service is especially suitable for customers who have already attended the integration training for migrants, or for customers who have already lived in Finland for a while and need to improve their skillset in order to get employed.

Career coaching

• Career coaching focuses on strengthening the customers skills in job seeking and use of digital tools, developing readiness for the job market and making a personal career plan.

• Career coaching is targeted for adults who are headed to the job market directly or via education after integration. One can apply for career coaching via professional coach.

Job search manager

• Job search manager provides support for job search, including help with CV and job applications, recognizing and marketing competence and job search related digital tools.

• Job search manager gives personal assistance without time reservations. The service is open for the customers of International Tampere Skills Center on Mondays from 9am to 11am and from 12am to 3pm and form Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 3.30pm.

Customers of the International Tampere Skills Centre

The International Skills Centre's services are aimed at job seekers in Tampere who/se:

  • have an immigrant background
  • native language is not Finnish
  • have a residence permit or are Finnish nationals
  • are without work or a place to study
  • are in need of support to find a job or a place to study
  • are in need of support in order to integrate into the Finnish society.

The Centre functions as a multidisciplinary employment co-operative of the City of Tampere, Tampere Vocational College Tredu and the Pirkanmaa Employment Office. Other partners are Migration Info Centre Mainio, Tampere Social Services, The Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) and other service providers in the Pirkanmaa region.
