Christmas season memo 2025

Independence Day, Christmas, New Year and Epiphany bring changes to service hours and public transport services.

Emergency number 112 and fault reports

Call 112 when you have an emergency or you need urgent assistance from the authorities: police, paramedics, firefighters or social services.

You can report issues with street maintenance and outdoor lighting issues to Tampere Service Point. 

Tampere Water will answer your feedback on water distribution and sewage system.

Tampereen Energia has 24/7 fault service in case of a fault in the electricity, heating, cooling, or natural gas distribution.

Buses and trams

The Christmas, New Year and Epiphany holidays affect public transport timetables and the operation of routes designed to meet the needs of schoolchildren. See the Nysse website for exceptions. For up-to-date information on bus and tram routes, please consult the route guide. 

City of Tampere services

Official services and Tampere Service Point are closed on 24–26 December 2025, New Year's Day 1 January and Epiphany January 6, 2026.

Frenckell cashier services will be closed 31 December, 2025 at 12 noon. The Wellbeing Services County of Pirkanmaa's cashier services will end on 31 December, 2025.

City Archive is closed 24 December, 2025 to 2 January, 2026.

Housing consultation is on Christmas break from 22 December, 2025 to January 6, 2026.

Nysse customer service at Frenckell is closed 24–26 December 2025, New Year's Day 1 January and Epiphany January 6, 2026.

The Sports Services facility reservation and customer service will be open on Friday, 5 December, from 10 am to 14.30. On New Year's Eve, 31 December, the service desk and telephone service will be open from 10 am to 14.30. During Christmas week, December 23–28, and on New Year 1 January, the facility reservation and customer service will be closed.

Employment and Growth Services have exceptional opening hours during  22 December, 2025 to 5 January, 2026. See detailed information on the link below. The employer phone service will be closed on December 22–23, 2025.

Libraries

Libraries will close at 17.00 at the latest on 5 December, 23 December and 31 December, 2025 and 5 January 2026. Mobile libraries will drive until 16.00.

Libraries and mobile libraries are closed on Independence Day 6 December, Christmas 24–26 December 2025, 1 January and 6 January, 2026.

Self-Service is available through the holidays in most libraries. Lielahti Library and Vuores Library have exceptions. Check your nearest library's opening hours.

Culture and museums

Culture House Laikku is closed 15 December, 2025 to 9 January, 2026.

Children's Cultural Centre Rulla is closed 15 December, 2025 to 2 January, 2026.

City of Tampere museums are open until 16.00 on 5 December and New Year's Eve 31 December, 2025. On Epiphany 6 January, 2026 museums are open. See other opening hours by museum below:

• Museum Centre Vapriikki is closed 6 December, 23–26 December, 2025 and 1 January, 2026.
• Tampere Art Museum is closed 6 December, 23–26 December, 2025 and 1 January, 2026.
• Moomin Museum is closed 6 December, 23–26 December, 2025 and 1 January, 2026.
• Museum Milavida is closed 6 December, 23–25 December, 2025 and 1 January, 2026.
• Werstas - The Finnish Labour Museum is closed 6 December, 24–26 December, 2025 and 1 January, 2026.
• Sara Hildén Museum is closed and will open 10 January, 2026.
• Amuri Museum of Workers’ Housing is closed and opens in May 2026.

Swimming pools

• On Independence Day 6 December, only Tampere Swimming Centre will be open from 10-18.
• On Christmas 24-25 December all swimming pools will be closed.
• On Boxing Day 26 December only Tampere Swimming Centre will be open from 10-18.
• On New Year's Eve 31 December, 2025 all swimming pools are open: Pyynikki Swimming Pool from 10-18 and other swimming pools from 6-18
• On New Year's Day 1 January, 2026, only Tampere Swimming Centre will be open from 10-18.
• On Epiphany 6 January, 2026 all swimming pools will be open from 10-18.

Gyms

Tampere city gyms are located in swimming pools and sports halls. The gyms are open according to the opening hours of the sports venue in question.

Indoor sports facilities

Kaukajärvi Leisure Centre, Nääshalli, Tampere Stadium and Tesoma Sports Hall:

• Open from 7.00-15.00 on Friday 5 December and Tuesday 23 December
• Closed on Independence Day 6 December, Christmas 24-26 December, 2025
• Open from 7.30-14.30 on New Year's eve 31 December
• Closed New Year's Day 1 January and Epiphany 6 January, 2026

Special events may change the opening hours.

Ice Stadiums

• Open from 7.00-15.00 on Tuesday 23 December.
• Closed on Christmas 24–26 December, 2025 and New Year's Day 1 January, 2026.

Artificial ice rinks and other outdoor sports facilities

The artificial ice rinks on Koulukatu, Sorsapuisto, Lielahti and Ahvenisjärvi will be open, conditions permitting, during normal opening hours on Independence Day 6 December, Christmas Day 25 December, Boxing Day 26 December and New Year's Eve 31 December. They will also be open on New Year's Day 1 January and Epiphany 6 January 2026.

Other outdoor sports facilities will be closed on Independence Day 6 December, Christmas 24-26 December and New Year's Day 1 January 2026. They will be open on Epiphany 6 January and will also be open on New Year's Eve, 31 December, from 7 am to 3 pm.

The heated artificial turf pitches at Kauppi Sports Park will be open on Independence Day, 6 December and Epiphany, 6 January 2026, if necessary.

Skiing tracks

The skiing tracks will be maintained during the festive season as the weather permits and any exceptions will be agreed separately. 

On Christmas Eve, the maintenance of the tracks will be suspended.

Fireworks

Fireworks use is banned from 31 December 6 p.m. to 1 January 2 a.m. in Tampere city centre area. More information about the specific area coming soon. Elsewhere in Tampere fireworks intended for private consumers can be let off on New Year's Eve between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.
