What's happening in Tampere before Christmas? Welcome to enjoy the Christmas season in Tampere!
Tampere Christmas Opening 22 November
The Tampere Christmas Opening will be celebrated on Saturday, 22 November from 16–17. The traditional Christmas parade will leave Metso at 4 pm and will go along Hämeenpuisto and Kauppakatu to the Keskustori Central Square.
After the parade, there will be an event, and the Keskustori Central Square's Christmas tree lights will be switched on. The event is organized by Tampere Tunnetuksi ry.
Christmas in the Stable Yards
The Tallipiha Stable Yards' celebrates Christmas every day from 15 November to 23 December, 2025. In the beautiful wooden houses of Stable Yards you can find shops, boutiques and a cafe with delicious treats, hot beverages and freshly baked goods. Little booths at the yard are filled with quality handicrafts and design on weekends.
Say hello to Santa Claus or take a horse-drawn carriage ride.

- The cafe every day 10–20 (23 December from 10–18)
- The kiosk on the terrace is open on weekends and Independence Day 6 December from 11–18.
Christmas at the Palace at the Museum Milavida
Museum Milavida has been decorated for Christmas, and objects and stories about the Christmas celebrations of 19th century gentlefolk have been added to The Nottbecks – Cosmopolitans of Tampere exhibition.
Christmas at the Palace consists of an exhibition, themed guided tours and a rich supporting programme. See more information on the website.

Tampere Christmas Market
The traditional Tampere Christmas Market will once again fill Keskustori Central Square with a warm Christmas atmosphere. All market cottages will be open from November 29th until December 22nd, 2025. Explore the vendors and discover inspiring gift ideas for Santa’s sack along with delicious treats for your Christmas table.
Opening hours
- Christmas Market is open every day from 11–19
- The Glogg restaurant is open 22–23 November and 26 November–23 December from 11–20, and on 24 December from 11–15.
- Pyynikki Doughnut Cafe is open 22–23 November and 26 November to 22 December from 11–19.
Laikku’s Pre-Christmas party on 29 November
Enjoy Christmas music and craft greeting cards for seniors at Laikku’s Pre-Christmas party! Trio Sointu will perform two atmospheric concerts in the Music Hall at 13.30 and 15.00, and there’s a non-stop Christmas card workshop in the Lecture Hall from 13–16. We’ll also serve glogg and gingerbread cookies to the first 80 participants – warmly welcome!
Christmas workshops at Moomin Museum's Studio
Even though we have read Tove Jansson's heartwarming short story The Fir Tree and know that Moomins don’t celebrate Christmas, we will be making soft Christmas decorations at the Moomin Museum's Studio starting on Saturday, 29 November. The Studio is open to all museum visitors from 12–16 every day. The Christmas workshop will continue until Epiphany and is included in the museum admission fee.
Meet the mayors at Tampere Christmas Market on 1 December
The Mayor of Tampere Ilmari Nurminen and Deputy Mayors Anne-Mari Jussila, Ilkka Porttikivi and Jaakko Mustakallio will be at the Christmas Market on Monday 1 December at 17.00. At the low-threshold event, the city's leadership will be discussing current issues with Tampere residents and wishing everyone a happy holiday season.
In addition to the discussion, glögi and Christmas pastries will be served to the first 200 people.
Christmas Mail for the Elderly
Tampere is once again participating in the national Christmas Mail for the Elderly campaign and invites everyone in the city to join in spreading Christmas cheer. During the campaign, Tampere residents can make Christmas cards to be distributed before Christmas to clients of home care or elderly housing services.
Christmas greetings can be brought to collection points across the city till 4 December, 2025. The campaign is organised by Siskot ja Simot ry, a creative community of carers.
Independence Day celebrations 6 December
Tampere will celebrate Finland's Independence Day with a public celebration open to all at Frenckell Square on 6 December 2025 from 5:00 pm to 5:35 pm. The celebration will feature the legendary band Yö and will be hosted by actor Matti Leino.
Free admission, welcome!
At the end of the celebration, the buildings in the Central Square area will be illuminated with magnificent Moomin light installations. The installations, based on Tove Jansson's original drawings, are from the book Moominland Midwinter (1957). The installations will enliven the atmosphere of the Christmas Market and bring the magic of winter to Central Square until 7 January 2026. The lights will be on daily from 4 pm to 10 pm.
Children's Independence Day 6 December
This year the whole world will celebrate when the Children's Independence Day celebration takes over Sorsapuisto-sali of Tampere Hall again! The event will be in two parts and you can participate in the celebration 6 December either from 13 to 15 or from 15 to 17. The program content is the same in both parts. The event will be hosted in both Finnish and English.
Swimming in the Christmas mood 12 and 19 December
Swimming pools are once again in the Christmas mood with lights and music!
- Friday 12 December 2025 from 17.30 to 20.00 at Tesoma Swimming Pool
- Friday 19 December 2025 from 17.00 to 20.30 at Pyynikki Swimming Pool
There will be peaceful music and the lighting which create a warm, cosy atmosphere.
Christmas skating at Ahvenisjärvi 14 December
A family skating event on Sunday 14 December from 14–17 at Ahvenisjärvi in Hervanta.
Doghill Christmas at Särkänniemi
Enjoy the Christmas spirit at the Doghill Christmas at Särkänniemi amusement park. You can play, sing, enjoy and treat yourself in the Christmas wonderland of Koiramäki and meet Santa Claus, reindeer and other animal friends.

The Tampere Festival of Light will light up Tampere during the darkest time of the year. Check out the illuminated sites and come and admire Tampere's light art!
The Light Gallery features Tove Jansson's "The Moomins' Journey Home". The illustrations are selected from Jansson's first Moomin story.
