– A Christmas card is a beautiful and traditional way to show you care. It tells the recipient that they are being thought of warmly. Sending and receiving cards is an important tradition for many elderly people. During the darkest time of the year, a handwritten friendly greeting can bring joy to both the sender and the receiver, says Piia Karkkola, planner at the City of Tampere.
– The campaign has been popular for several years. For many, the card received through the campaign may be their only Christmas greeting. Cards brought to the collection points will be distributed before Christmas to clients of home care and housing services, Karkkola continues.
Everyone is welcome to participate – individuals, hobby groups, volunteers, daycare centers, school classes, student groups, associations, workplaces, and more. The campaign is organized by the creative caring community Siskot ja Simot ry.
Write a friendly Christmas greeting by hand on the card. It can be a simple “Merry Christmas!”, but you can also include a personal message or a short poem. For example, “You are important” or “Hope you find the almond in your Christmas porridge” can make the greeting extra special. Please sign the card with your first name and the name of the campaign organizer: Siskot ja Simot ry.
Making a card also brings joy to the creator. Crafting offers a moment to slow down and see the result of your own work.
Some collection points will also host Christmas card workshops where you can make cards together with others. For more information about the workshops, please contact the collection points directly.
