Attending early childhood education and care in another municipality

Applying for a new place in early childhood education and care

You may apply for early childhood education regionally. The municipalities of the Tampere urban region — Ylöjärvi, Kangasala, Lempäälä, Nokia, Orivesi, Pirkkala, Tampere, and Vesilahti — have agreed on a regional application system.

Residents of each municipality are given priority to receive a daycare place in their own municipality of residence. If there are places available in the early childhood education and care facilities in the municipality applied for, a place of care can be granted to children residing in the Tampere region, regardless of their municipality of residence, for one year at a time.

You need to submit an application both to your current municipality of residence and to the municipality in which you wish to receive a place for your child in early childhood education and care. You should use the application form specific to each municipality concerned. A place of care in another municipality may only be granted until the beginning of the child’s pre-primary education.

Early childhood education and care place in case the municipality of residence changes in the middle of the operational period

The regional early childhood education and care agreement makes it possible to continue the child’s care relationship, if the family so wishes, in their former municipality of residence until the end of the operational period of early childhood education and care activities (from 1 August to 31 July). Correspondingly, the agreement allows children to seek early childhood education and care in their future municipality of residence already from the beginning of the operational period, even if the family will move to the new municipality in the middle of the operational period.

When a child continues in early childhood education in their old municipality of residence, the family shall obtain a payment commitment from the early childhood education authority of their new municipality of residence. Correspondingly, when a child transfers to early childhood education and care provided by the new municipality already before the family moves there, they shall obtain a payment commitment from the early childhood education authority of their current municipality of residence.

The Agreement was prepared by the daycare working group of the regional administration, and parties to it are the cities of Tampere, Nokia, Orivesi and Ylöjärvi, and the municipalities of Kangasala, Lempäälä, Pirkkala and Vesilahti.
