Applying for the daycare place guarantee
The City of Tampere offers a daycare place guarantee. This means that if a child’s need for early childhood education and care ends due to, for example, a parent’s maternity, paternity or parental leave, child‑care leave, layoff or unemployment, the child can take a break from daycare for at least four (4) months and return to the same daycare centre after the absence.
To be eligible, the child must have had a continuous daycare placement for at least three (3) months before the break. The guardians and the daycare centre manager agree on the daycare place guarantee in writing. The daycare centre must be informed of the planned absence at least two (2) weeks before it starts. When making the agreement, the guardians must give an estimated return date, which will be confirmed one month before the child returns. The City of Tampere guarantees that the child can come back to the same daycare centre.
The daycare place guarantee is available in municipal daycare centres in Tampere. It does not apply to family daycare or pre-primary education.
The agreement can be made for up to two (2) years or until the child starts pre-primary education. The guarantee ends if the family needs daycare before the agreed break is over—then a new daycare application must be submitted normally. The guarantee also ends if the family moves out of Tampere for more than one year or permanently.
During the guarantee period, the family may be eligible for the home care allowance provided by Kela.
A service voucher or private daycare allowance cannot be granted during the guarantee period.
If the child attended daycare in August of the previous year, they are entitled to a free month in July and may choose their eight (8) free summer weeks. This right also applies to children returning from a daycare place guarantee, as long as the same conditions are met.
During the child’s absence, the family can use the City of Tampere’s open early childhood education and care services. Read more about open family clubs:
