Schoolchildren of Tampere will be on winter holiday from 26 February to 3 March 2024. Check out the fun activities for schoolchildren and their families! The activities are mainly free of charge.

Winter holiday in Vapriikki

Vapriikki has programme for the winter holiday every day, also on Monday. The daily themes introduce the visitor to the different exhibitions. The museum has amazing guided tours, workshops and other fun things to do! The new museum orientation track is waiting for you! Those who complete the track will be rewarded! The whole programme with the Vapriikki ticket. Welcome!

Tampere Art Museum

New exhibitions, Tuula Lehtinen – With Pleasure and Charles Sandison, will open on Saturday 24 February.

On winter holiday Sat 24 February – Sun 3 March, we organise guided tours for holidaymakers every day (except on Monday 26 February because the museum is closed).

1 pm: guided tour for children
3 pm: guided tour for adults (on Sunday, 25 February, Tuula Lehtinen artist tour will replace the audience tour)

The guided tours are included in the museum's admission fee. Welcome to enjoy art on your holiday!

Moomin Museum

At the Moomin Museum, you can enjoy your winter holidays in weeks 8 and 9 on a family Moominland Midwinter tour à la Monsieur Carousel (we won't go in ice holes or on ski-jump ramps!). The tours are held daily at 11 am in Finnish and at 1 pm in English. In the studio, we’ll get all creative in one of the Kaamospiirros drawing workshops.

Note: The Moomin Museum is closed on Mondays. Tours and workshops are included in the price of the museum ticket.

Winter sports galore for families & Winter sports day of National Skiing Day

Event for families in Virelä, Ikuri on Saturday 24 February from noon to 3 pm. Your family is welcome to practice basic skiing skills with guidance from Tampereen Taivaltajat. The professionals of Virelä skiing department wax your skis to fit the weather! In addition, there’s snowshoeing, building snow(wo)men and playing games. There's a café on location.

Holidays at the swimming halls – Dive into the pool!

Welcome to swim with your family. Guided activities, playing, ball games, practising water skills, experimenting with equipment, task-based orientation and a great time together.

Lupa Harrastaa basketball tournaments

Lupa Harrastaa basketball games are again available for 1st to 9th graders during the winter holiday week. The aim is to have fun games with a relaxed atmosphere. We welcome you to join us for a game and a good time!

  • There is no registration for the events and you can invite friends to play. You can participate in all events if you wish.
  • Be prepared with suitable clothing, a water bottle and indoor shoes.
  • Starting at 14.00, gather in the hall and warm up. Instructors will meet you and guide you to the changing rooms.
  • 14.30-16.00 games. The game format is 3x3 or 4x4 basketball in one basket. Playing time is 10 minutes per game.
  • Instructors form teams on the spot, usually 3-4 players per team.

Winter holiday for young people

Youth Culture Centre Monitoimitalo 13 winter holiday events:

Liikkis 11h is back! On Friday 1 March from noon–11 pm, Liikkis will be at various locations around the city to organise various pop-ups for holidaymakers. This year, the theme of the pop-ups is music, in one way or the other. Follow in Instagram @nuortenliikkis to see where Liikkis is at.

Youth centres around the city are open even on winter holidays, and there are many types of special programmes available for young people.

Children's Culture Centre Rulla events during the winter holiday week

Rulla is open on Wed noon-6 pm, Thu-Fri 9 am–2 pm and Sat-Sun 10 am–4 pm.

Explore the Metsänpeitto exhibition or the Minä, Supersankari art workshop! You can also dress up as a tiger on Estradi and do your own show on the stage. The little ones can enjoy and play at Family Club Terra.

Sat 2 March at 2 pm Dance Theatre Raatikko: The Hip Hop Hurraa! show at the Laikku Music Hall (3rd floor). The humorous Hip Hop Hurraa! dance show toys with motion and sentences and trains your street credibility in miniature size. In the guaranteed style of Raatikko, the audience plays an active role in the performance. Recommended for children aged 3-12 and their families. Free of charge!

The show is part of the Perheiden lomalauantai event of the Hengaa täällä project.

Library events during winter holidays

During the winter holiday week, libraries offer free films for children and young people. On Wednesday, there is a film viewing for people of all ages at the Messukylä Library. A film for schoolchildren is available at the Koilliskeskus Library on Friday. In Satuhuone in the main library Metso, you can enjoy films (K7) on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The film marathon of the Koilliskeskus Library shows young people films (K12) between 10 am and 6 pm on Wednesday.

Actor Emilia Pokkinen's children's theatre performance Veijo Varpunen ja ystävät will be at the Koukkuniemi library on Saturday. The performance includes poems that emphasise the importance of friendship and empathy. Fun, endearing animal characters help handle painful feelings in a way that respects and understands children. The performance is recommended for pre-schoolers and young pupils.

In addition, the youngest family members can dive into the world of fairy tales at Lielahti Library on Tuesday and at the Koilliskeskus Library on Thursday.

Library events are free of charge.

Children's Pirkkaset

Lasten Pirkkaset is a children's culture month of the municipalities of Pirkanmaa, during which children's culture can be seen and heard especially throughout Pirkanmaa. The month is celebrated in February with the theme "Fun with Letters" and the Touring Performer is Improvisation Theater Snorkkeli. The program is aimed at children aged 0-12 and their families.
