Frequently asked questions about Tampere region employment area

What is Tampere region employment area?

Public employment and economic development services were transferred to employment areas as of 1 January 2025, and the central government’s Employment and Economic Development Offices (TE Offices) were discontinued. There are 45 employment areas in Finland. Two employment areas were created in Pirkanmaa: Western Pirkanmaa and Tampere region. Mänttä-Vilppula was transferred to the Southern Central Finland employment area.

The Tampere region employment area comprises the municipalities of Akaa, Juupajoki, Kangasala, Kuhmoinen, Lempäälä, Nokia, Orivesi, Pirkkala, Pälkäne, Ruovesi, Tampere, Urjala, Valkeakoski, Vesilahti, Virrat and Ylöjärvi. The municipality responsible for the employment area is Tampere.

What benefits do the employment areas offer for clients?

The reform brings employment and economic development services closer to residents and businesses. The aim is to facilitate and speed up the employment of job seekers and assist businesses in finding employees. The reform also ensures that the services are available to everyone on an equal basis.

All job seekers and businesses in the employment area receive advice and guidance on job search, recruitment and competence development from their own municipality of residence. Employment services are part of the basic services of each municipality in the same way as education or civil engineering services, among others.

The clients use the services in their municipality of residence and receive personal assistance from their Employment Service Specialist. Job seekers’ employment prospects improve, as the municipalities work in close cooperation with various parties active in working life, businesses, associations and business development services, and are able to effectively ensure the availability of a skilled workforce for local trade and industry. New services are developed in cooperation with employment services, educational organisations, enterprise and business development services, healthcare and social welfare services, the private sector, associations, foundations and the government. With the new services, the varied and individual service needs of job seeker clients can be better met.
