The current Nekala Library will close on 7 December

The operations of Nekala Library in its current premises will end in December, after which preparations will begin for the library’s move to new facilities. The new Nekala Library will open in the spring in the upcoming Nekala Cultural Centre.

Construction works affect the access routes of Nekala Library

The renovation of the Nekala school has begun. Nekala Library will be open to customers as usual during the renovation, but the renovation will affect the library's access routes. There will be no parking spaces for customers in the vicinity of the library during the renovation.

During the construction period, Nekala Library is accessible by foot and bike from Ahlmanintie, next to the bus stop (Nekalan koulu 3029).

The estimated duration of the construction works is from July 2024 to December 2025.

The return box: Materials left to the box are processed as returned a few times a week when staff visit the library.

The route to the main entrance

The entrance stands out clearly and is illuminated. There is a canopy above the entrance. The Nekala Library is a self-service library that can be used by registered customers by logging in with their library card and PIN code. In connection with the entrance, there are at least 4 steps, with handrails on both sides. The entrance has a ramp over 6 m long without an intermediate landing, with handrails on both sides. The doors connected to the entrance stand out clearly and the glass doors have contrast markings. Outside the door there is sufficient room for moving e.g. with a wheelchair. The door opens automatically with an opening button. The entrance has thresholds over 2 cm high.

In the facility

The customer service point is on the entrance floor. The doors in the customer service point are hard to perceive. The waiting room of the customer service point has no queue number system. The customers wait standing up. The customer service point has an accessible toilet on the same floor.

The Nekala Library is located in the courtyard of the Nekala school. It is Finland's first library built in a portable rental container. A small but functional library charms with its colours and homely atmosphere.

Doors open with library card

Nekala Library operates as a self-service library. You can access the library every day with a library card and your four-digit code. The library does not have regular staff present but you can use the self-service machines to loan and return your books. You can also read newspapers, study or work, and use your computer and printer in the library.
