TAMPERE, A WORLD-CLASS CITY OF CULTURE
Tampere is known for its distinctive local culture as well as its vivid and original sauna traditions, but almost secretly, it has become a city of international buzz among artists, musicians, architects, and Hollywood stars alike.
As an example, actor Brad Pitt and rock star Nick Cave chose to exhibit their artwork first time in their life at Sara Hildén Art Museum. The ceramic series by Nick Cave and sculptures by Brad Pitt are visible in Tampere until 15 January 2023 in Thomas Houseago's WE with Nick Cave and Brad Pitt.
Eric Clapton, Johnny Depp, Queen, Steve Vai, 50 Cent, and Sting have all recently made their way to Tampere. Not least due to Nokia Arena, Europe’s leading and award-winning multipurpose venue designed by American architect Daniel Libeskind.
On the other side of the road, classical music superstar Santtu-Matias Rouvali leads the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, who welcomes the likes of Kaija Saariaho and Kirill Gerstein to Tampere this season. Rouvali leaves his position after 10 years in autumn 2023, and will be replaced by Matthew Halls.
Who knows, if before that there will also be another Hollywood movie shot in Tampere, after Riley Stearns’s Dual starring Aaron Paul and Karen Gillan was fully filmed in Tampere in 2020. Director David Fincher's visit to Sara Hildén exhbition will definitely not harm those ambitions.
Welcome to Tampere, a city of world-class culture!
