Users find the Tampere.fi website useful and offering a wide range of services

According to a recent user survey, the City of Tampere's website is searched in particular for current affairs, leisure, sports and library information. The majority of respondents said they found the information they were looking for.

A survey was conducted on the City of Tampere's Tampere.fi website between 10 November and 4 December 2023.The survey could be answered through a pop-up window displayed on the website when visiting the site or directly by clicking on the link. The questionnaire was available in both Finnish and English for completion. 1 183 respondents took part in the survey, 56 of whom replied in English.

Across all the responses, Tampere.fi was mostly visited for current affairs (30 %), leisure, hobbies and sports (26 %), library (20 %), events calendar (20 %), transport (19 %) and culture (18 %).

72 % of respondents had found the information they were looking for. 9 % of respondents had not found the information they were looking for. 19 % of respondents said they had not looked for anything specific on the website.

User experiences and other feedback to support the development of the website

The survey measured satisfaction with the Tampere.fi website by asking questions that examined the site from different perspectives. The answers to the questions were used to create a user satisfaction index, which was 3.63 on a scale of 1 to 5.

Respondents were most satisfied that the website was useful, that the pages worked without any problems and that the site offered a wide range of services. The lowest satisfaction scores were given for the distinctive character of the site, the ease of finding information and the clarity of the site. All the features assessed scored above 3 on a scale of 1 to 5.

On a scale of 4 to 10, respondents gave the site a school rating of 7.86. In the 2022 survey, the rating of the site was 7.51.

The survey gave the respondents the opportunity to give free feedback and suggestions for improvements to the Tampere.fi site. Among other things, the respondents wanted to improve the clarity, user-friendliness and findability of the website. Some of the free feedback provided by respondents was not related to the Tampere.fi website. The feedback received will be taken into account in the development of the Tampere.fi website.

The feedback also indicates that some information related to health services is also searched on the City of Tampere website. The responsibility for organising social and health services was transferred to the Wellbeing services county of Pirkanmaa  at the beginning of 2023 and therefore there is no longer information on social and health services on Tampere.fi. Information on social and health services is available on the wellbeing services county's Pirha.fi website.

Majority of respondents from Tampere

84 % of the respondents to the user survey were residents of Tampere and 16 % were from outside the city. The largest age groups of respondents were, in order, 55-64 (22 %), 65-74 (20 %), 45-54 (19 %), 35-44 (16 %), 25-34 (11 %) and 15-24 (6 %).

In terms of status or occupation, respondents were most often retired (29 %), employees (19 %), senior managers (11 %), white-collar workers (11 %), students (9 %), unemployed (8 %) and self-employed (4 %).

30 % of respondents had come to the site via an external search service, and 25 % from an old memory, i.e. a direct address. 15 % of respondents came via social media and 7 % via a link on another page. For 5 % of respondents, the page was the start page of their browser and 5 % came from an advertisement or a notice.

Of all respondents, 35 % said they visited the City of Tampere website occasionally, 30 % weekly, 24 % monthly, 8 % daily and 3 % were visiting for the first time.

Some differences in the responses in Finnish and English

56 users responded to the English-language survey. The largest proportion of respondents in English were in the 25-34 age group (36 %) and the largest proportion of respondents by profession or status were students (38 %).

The respondents who answered in English came most often to Tampere.fi via an external search service (40 %), with a lower proportion of this group (16 %) coming from an old memory direct address than respondents who answered in Finnish.

The respondents who answered in English were more likely than respondents who answered in Finnish to search for information on education, culture, early childhood education, general city information, services for job seekers and job vacancies. Respondents who answered in Finnish were more likely than the respondents who answered in English to seek information on transport and services for the elderly. 76 % of the respondents who answered in English said they found the information they were looking for.

The respondents who answered in English were more satisfied with the site than those who answered in Finnish: the user satisfaction index on a scale of 1 to 5 was 4.0 for the respondents who answered in English, and the school rating of the website was 8.1 on a scale of 4 to 10.

A user survey of the Tampere.fi website is carried out annually. This year's survey was carried out by Online-tutkimus Oy. Participants had the opportunity to take part in a prize draw for cinema tickets if they wished. The winners of the draw have been informed personally.
