Kalervo Kummola elected Mayor of Tampere

In its meeting on 15 May 2023, the City Council of Tampere unanimously elected Kalervo Kummola (National Coalition Party) as the new Mayor of Tampere. In this position, he follows Anna-Kaisa Ikonen (National Coalition Party), who has become a Member of Parliament. Kummola’s term of office is 16 May 2023–31 May 2025.

– Tampere must continue to be a city of opportunities that opens doors to growth, entrepreneurship and the creation of jobs. For Tampere to keep its magic, we need more internationalisation, good transport connections, top expertise and companies.

– We must continue the bold development of the urban environment while also paying attention to the safety and pleasantness of residential areas. We must look after the City’s finances and aim at balanced finances also in future, Mayor Kalervo Kummola stated in his keynote speech.

He emphasised that looking after children, young people and older people should be a priority. The promotion of wellbeing, a comprehensive school network, the prevention of challenges and problems, and individual support should be maintained also in the future.
