In order to have your mail delivered to the correct address from the correct date, you should submit the Change of address notification or notice of delivery interruption well in advance.

The local register offices are responsible for maintaining their regional Population Information System and their local information services.

Benefits for families with children

Parents are eligible for a variety of benefits from Kela as their children are born and grow up.

Child Home Care Allowance

Child home care allowance can be paid to families that have a child under age 3 who is not in municipal day care. If granted, the allowance is also paid for any other children under school age whose care is arranged in the same way.

Child protection

Every person who notices that a child or adolescent needs help can contact a social welfare worker. Just as well, the child or adolescent herself/himself, parents, relatives or neighbours can also ask for help. Information can also be given anonymously.

Children’s day care supports child’s growth, development and learning.

Children’s Ombudsman

The City of Tampere has employed a Children’s Ombudsman whose task is to coordinate the city’s activities concerning children, i.e. the network of the different bodies, in order to promote the situation of children and young people.

Culture for children

Tampere is known as the cradle of children’s culture in the Pirkanmaa region.

Rulla is a colourful children’s cultural centre situated in Kulttuuritalo Laikku in central Tampere (Keskustori 4). Here children are allowed to create their own artwork and participate in fun and exciting events.

Maternity and child welfare clinics

The maternity clinics serve families during pregnancy, birth and the time shortly after the birth. The mother remains registered with the maternity clinic for three months after childbirth. Usually after the age of two weeks, the follow-up of the health of the newborn baby moves to the child welfare clinic.

Playgrounds

There are 243 playgrounds and a traffic park for the children in the city of Tampere. Traffic park in Kaleva is open in summertime and it is meant for the children aged 6-10 years.

Playing and play club activities

Diversified activities are organized for families and children under school age in clubs, playing activity centres and open day care centres.

Preschool education

Legal preschool education organized by the municipal authority is intended for all children under school age one year before compulsory school education commences.

Services for families with children

Different kinds of services are available for families with children. The objective is for the families to cope by their own means in various situations of life. Services are to detect potential problems at an early stage and provide treatment as soon as possible.

The Christmas Market offers relaxing moments and a merry atmosphere, performances to raise your holiday spirits to the fullest, and many artists and craftspeople presenting and selling their uniquely Finnish artworks and products.

Christmas at Tallipiha Stable Yards

A hundred years ago the Stable Yards were part of the Finlayson factory community that dominated the city of Tampere for half a century. The Stable Yards were the domain of the factory owner’s horses and the staff needed to care for them. Today, the historic Tallipiha is a free-of-charge sight with a fascinating cafe, chocolate and handicraft shops and various events. The community is also home to different seasonal events. During winter, Stable Yards celebrate Shrovetide and Christmas with various events.

City council 

City Council

The supreme decision-making body in the City of Tampere is the City Council with its 67 members. Council members and their deputies are elected in a municipal election held every four years.

City planning 

City planning

The 2040 target master plan for the inner city of Tampere comprises the entire city with the exception of the countryside in the north. The inner city master plan covers residential, service and workplace locations, traffic routes and green areas in a way that allows Tampere to respond to population growth without compromising quality.
