The Best places Tampere – Sorsapuisto park

Do you have a favourite place in Tampere? Is your favourite place a natural site, a building, or a specific area in the city?

Parhaat paikat – opas tamperelaisille tärkeisiin paikkoihin (The Best Places in Tampere) brochure showcases the favourite places of Tampere residents. The brochure is based on interviews conducted in 2023–2024 by the City of Tampere’s cultural companions. The interviewees were selected from among Tampere residents aged 10 to 96, totaling 50 people.

From the favourite places mentioned, a few popular ones were selected and turned into three walkable routes, which you can find in the brochure.

Printed copies of the brochure (only in Finnish) are available in the Laikku Culture House.

Lainasto Exhibition

Come and see the Lainasto exhibition, organized in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Old Library House, where the Culture House Laikku has borrowed visual art from the walls of Tampere residents’ homes. 

100 years ago, a new library building was built on the edge of Tampere’s Central Square. After the library moved to the new main library in Metso in 1986, the building became offices and cultural facilities. Since 2018, the building has served the residents of Tampere as a cultural centre in the middle of Tampere, called the Culture House Laikku. 

For the Lainasto art exhibition, anyone was able to propose their own favourite artwork to be displayed. 

From a number of proposed artworks and different stories, 34 pieces were selected for the exhibition. The end result is a delightful mix of art both by respected artists and by amateur/hobby creators, valued by their owners of different ages and backgrounds. 

Lainasto exhibition is a unique collection of works which tell of personal stories as well as of the importance of art to us. The works in the exhibition tell stories of childhood memories, history, hometown, identity, joys, losses, family, friendships and loves. 

The video On a Travels with Sirkku is part of the City of Tampere's digital cultural services for the elderly citizens.
