Eeli Jaakkola, Senior Advisor, World Bank Group

"Tampere is the most desired city in the happiest country in the world, it's hard to see a better place to invest."

What is your background in international business?

I have worked on corporate governance for international development banks (mainly the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank Group) both in Helsinki at the Ministry of Finance and on the Board of the World Bank Group in Washington. The projects of the international development banks also offer interesting opportunities for Finnish companies.

Why is Tampere a great place for international business?

Tampere's higher education institutions provide skilled workforce. Additionally, Tampere has a special can-do spirit, but still manages to do things with a relaxed attitude. You can always rely on the word of a Finn, and especially a Tamperean. If something is agreed, it will be done.

Why would you encourage on investing, or founding a company, in Tampere?

Tampere is the most desired city in the happiest country in the world, it's hard to see a better place to invest.

What are the main things you wish to promote as a Tampere Business Ambassador?

I want to promote the growth of international business for Tampere-based companies, raise Tampere's profile worldwide, and increase the international networks of Tampere-based companies.

How would you describe Tampere as a city, what makes it unique?

Tampere is the best city in the world. What makes Tampere special is Tammelantori (a market square), black sausage, Ilves (local sports club), Pyynikki (residential area) and the donuts of the observation tower, Rauhaniemi sauna and Kauppi forest.
