The story of the park

Emil Aaltonen Park is named after vuorineuvos and industrial leader Emil Aaltonen. He made a significant contribution to the building of Tampere and was also a well-known donor of cultural donations and art collector. The park was completed in 1914.

At the northern end of the park is a castle-like shoe factory built by Emil Aaltonen. The park area is dominated by a fountain which was built in 1969 in honour of Emil Aaltonen's 100th birthday. The park also contains a memorial unveiled on 30 November 1989 for the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of the Winter War.

The park was renovated in 2011–2012. In 2012, the fountain plaza was renovated and special lighting was installed in the fountain.
