How to improve everyday safety? Now all Tampere residents can vote

Voting in the participatory budgeting of the City of Tampere will take place between 9 and 22 May 2022. In the vote, the residents of Tampere will decide how everyday safety in different parts of the city will be improved. Every Tampere resident, regardless of their age, is eligible to vote. Residents can vote primarily on the mun.tampere.fi website, but also at a few polling stations around the city.

“This year, the theme of Tampere’s participatory budgeting is safety. In February, Tampere residents had the opportunity to suggest ways to improve everyday safety in different parts of the city. The ideas could be related to, for example, the environment, the promotion of safety skills or communal safety, such as the possibility to feel safe to be oneself or safety created by the community," says Project Planner Laura Saartoala.
“Now Tampere residents will vote and decide which ideas will be put into practice. There are more than 70 proposals to choose from. They are presented in Finnish and English on the mun.tampere.fi website. The proposals are also presented on posters around the city," Saartoala continues.

Voting for all ages primarily online

Voting takes place between 9 and 22 May 2022 on the mun.tampere.fi website. It is also possible to vote at the following locations:

* Tampere City Central Office Building (Aleksis Kiven katu 14–16 C) on Wed 11 May from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

* Me-talo (Old chocolate factory, Multisillankatu 1) on Thu 12 May from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

* Tesoma Wellbeing Centre (Tesomankatu 4) on Tue 17 May from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

* Koilliskeskus (Liikekatu 3) on Wed 18 May from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

* Hervanta library (Insinöörinkatu 38) on Thu 19 May from 12 noon to 3 p.m.

Every Tampere resident is eligible to vote. There is no age limit, so children can also vote, for example, with the help of their parents. Every voter has two votes.

The results of the voting will be published immediately after the voting closes.

The city will implement the winning proposals by the end of 2023. EUR 450,000 has been reserved for the implementation. The funds are allocated evenly across the city. The southern, eastern, central, western and northern areas have each been allocated EUR 70,000. A sum of EUR 100,000 has been allocated for the implementation of city-wide ideas.
