New international film Svalta was filmed in Tampere

International audiences will soon be able to enjoy the scenery of the Tampere region on the silver screen. The film Svalta, filmed in Tampere this autumn, tells about a family's vacation to a remote island. The vacation takes an unexpected turn when they discover the island they're on is inhabited by a serial killer.

The film Svalta, starring Nick Frost (UK) and Aisling Bean (Ireland), was filmed in Tampere.

The American-English film has been shot in places such as Tammela Square, Hiedanranta in Lielahti, St Olaf's church in Tyrvää and Kangasala's Wanha Villa.

In the silver screen, Tampere becomes a Swedish island town, Svalta, where a family on holiday soon finds itself stalked by a serial killer.

The film is written by Nick Frost, who plays the lead role in the film. He is known for his roles in the Edgar Wright-directed Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End.

Frost is joined in the lead role by actress, writer and stand-up comedian Aisling Bea. Bea stars in Netflix's Living With Yourself and the British comedy This Way Up, among others.

The film is produced by XYZ Films, Wayward Entertainment and Resolute Films. The film is currently in post-production in the UK.

Tampere is an attractive filming location

Since 2018, the City of Tampere has supported more than 100 films or series shot in Tampere with its audiovisual production incentive. More and more of these productions are international productions. One of them Svalta.

The Tampere Production Incentive is managed by Film Tampere under Business Tampere. Film Tampere's Programme Director Fanny Heinonen is delighted with Tampere's appeal.

-Tampere has been working hard for years to develop the audiovisual and film and TV industries. The incentives and the diverse filming environment have attracted more and more international productions to Tampere," says Heinonen.
