Registration for pre-primary education for children started

The registration of children entering pre-primary education next autumn has started in Tampere. Registration for pre-primary education applies to children born in 2017.

The parent or guardian registers the child to pre-primary education on the city's website by 31 January 2023.

Under the Basic Education Act, the child must participate in pre-primary education or other activities that meet the objectives of pre-primary education during the academic year preceding compulsory education. Pre-primary education is organised in schools or day-care centres maintained by the city and in some private schools.

The child's pre-primary education placement is primarily determined by the child's address and future school pathway. Pre-primary education is usually provided in the school closest to the child's home.

You can register to pre-primary education for the academic year 2023-2024 electronically on the City of Tampere website between 9 and 31 January 2023. The website contains separate application forms for pre-primary education and bilingual pre-primary education in accordance with the school pathway. Bilingual pre-primary education is available in English, German and French alongside Finnish if the child has sufficient language skills in (one of) these.

If you are applying for a place in private pre-primary education, you need to fill in the organiser's own form.

Does the child need other activity?

Pre-primary education begins at 9:00 on Wednesday 9 August 2023. It is organised on the same days as school. Pre-primary education is free of charge and the daily teaching time is four hours. You can also register the child for paid complementary activities.

When the child is registered to pre-primary education in accordance with the school pathway and they need activities that complement their day, you will need to register them to the activity at the same time as to pre-primary education.

For more information about pre-primary education, pre-primary education placements, registration and other activities, please, visit the websites of the day-care centres and the City of Tampere.

When you are on the additional information page and you move to the registration page, please, change the language immediately to English in the upper right corner of the page. Then, sign in with Suomi.fi service’s strong authentication to the eVaka system and fill in the application.
