M. Sabbir Rahman’s path in work life has gone through challenging times and hard work towards success. Sabbir moved to Finland in 2014 to start his studies in electric engineering in Tampere University of technology. His first work experiences in Finland were part-time jobs he worked in during his studies.

Sabbir says he had to search for work for five months before getting a job delivering newspapers. Cold and dark January nights were gruesome at first for Sabbir, who was from a tropical climate, but he says he eventually started enjoying the challenge.

Sabbir graduated in 2018, and after graduating he switched into working full-time. He worked two jobs at the same time, but found it difficult to find a job in his own branch.

Focusing on job-seeking and the help of the city services helped Sabbir forward

The next year Sabbir cut back his over time work and registered as a job seeker in order to concentrate on finding a job, that would match his skills and studies. From the services of the TE-office he received the contact info of Mina Bouhlal, who nowadays works as a business coordinator in International Tampere Skills Centre.

Sabbir and Mina met multiple times, and Sabbir says during these meetings he received valuable information to help him in his job search. He tells that Mina helped in his job search by providing him with contact info for recruiting companies.

After some time Sabbir cleared his way into a program aiming to educate professionals for the ICT branch organized by the Tampere university of Applied Sciences. His determined attitude and support from the city services paid off, and after the program Sabbir got a trainee job in the ICT branch. This helped him to accumulate work experience. Nowadays Sabbir works as senior design engineer.
