Tampere-based Troll Visual Effects to receive an award for reforming creative economy
The first-ever LUO(V)UUS award will be awarded to the Tampere-based VFX production house Troll Visual Effects for developing cooperation and dialogue between creative industries and for their exceptionally extensive cooperation with an international film production.
At the end of 2021, Troll Visual Effects signed the largest subcontract ever concluded in Finland with an international film production. The contract concerns the creation of digital special effects for the film "Havoc", produced by XYZ Films and featuring Tom Hardy and Forest Whitaker, among others. "Havoc" will premiere on Netflix at the end of 2022.
– Troll Visual Effects is a great example of a Tampere-based company operating in the creative industry that has been able to grow its business, creating new jobs and visibility for the industry as well as building excellent international networks, says Anna-Kaisa Heinämäki, Competitiveness Director at the City of Tampere.
– By developing its operations in a determined manner and by creating networks, Troll Visual Effects has progressed from a small player to an international, global operator that is currently in continuous negotiations with major international players, including Netflix, HBO and Amazon, as well as major film studios and producers. We need ambitious entrepreneurs like it who boldly reform the practices in creative industries and hopefully encourage other operators to grow and develop their activities, and also increase the importance of creative entrepreneurship in the society, says Kaisa Rönkkö, CEO of Music x Media Finland.
The cooperation between the City of Tampere, Film Tampere and the US-based production company XYZ Films began when XYZ Films produced the film "Dual", starring Aaron Paul and Karen Gillan, in Tampere last autumn. As part of the cooperation agreement, the company has been looking for projects in its international networks that would be suitable for realisation in Finland.
The LUO(V)UUS award will now be awarded for the very first time. The award will be presented by Deputy Mayor of the City of Tampere Matti Helimo at the Industry Awards Gala organised in connection with the professional event Music x Media on Friday, 30 September.
