Joy from exercise and nature with a peer instructor
Companions/peer instructors are volunteers from the City of Tampere who will accompany you on exercise and cultural outings. With a companion, you can enjoy the city's cultural attractions and nature free of charge.
The peer instructors' walking groups are open to everyone and do not require registration. Peer instructors lead weekly walks in different parts of the city during both the fall and spring seasons.
The nature trips are also open to everyone during the spring and fall seasons and last 1–2 hours.
You can join the open gym groups for a one-time gym fee.
For more information about the companions, visit On the move with a volunteer companion -page.
Public skating
You can skate for free during public skating hours at the Hervanta and Tesoma Ice Stadiums during the fall and spring seasons. In Hervanta, there are non-stick skating sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the day. At the Tesoma Ice Stadium, there are both non-stick and stick skating sessions during the day on almost every day of the week during the skating season.
Public skating sessions are generally available from mid-August to the end of March. The skating session times can be found in the Timmi calendar.
Exercise for children and young people
Exercise courses for families with children are free of charge for participants. With the exception of a few courses, registration for Family exercise courses takes place twice a year via an online registration system, but there may still be places available in some groups even after the season has started.
Youth training offers a wide range of sports for young people aged 17–29. Registration for Youth training is flexible via the online registration system – as a rule, you can reserve a place for either a single session or as many sessions as you like.

Online exercise classes on Thursdays
Online exercise is easy and effective exercise for all ages, conducted via the internet. The exercise involves muscle training and developing general fitness according to different themes. The exercise class is broadcast live on Thursdays at 12 noon during the fall and spring seasons, and chair exercise classes begin at 1 pm.
When you register for online exercise, you will receive additional information about the exercises and their themes by email every couple of weeks, but you can also participate by going directly to the Liikkuva Tampere YouTube channel. You can also find recordings of the exercises there.
Outdoor exercise
While out walking, you can stop by one of our city's many outdoor gyms and work out on a variety of equipment. There are wonderful outdoor recreation areas throughout the city, such as the Pyynikki Ridge, the forests of Hervanta, and the Kintulammi outdoor recreation area.
Did you know that you can play disc golf all year round and that the courses are free for everyone to use without having to book a time slot?
