INNATURE
Tampere's new meadows will be located in Nekala and Härmälänranta, and residents will be able to participate in their construction. In Nekala, we will expand the habitat of the highly endangered Anacampsis fuscella moth with a new meadow. In Härmälänranta, we will create a deciduous meadow. The meadows will be planted with plants and seeds of local species. Art will also be used for co-development. The aim is to support biodiversity and create comfortable gathering places for residents.
We will involve different communities and professionals in the design and construction of nature-based solutions to maximise the benefits for people and nature.
Focus on nature-based solutions
Nature-based solutions harness nature's processes and ecosystems to improve the well-being of people and the environment. These solutions can take the form of traditional meadows, such as the new meadows at Nekala and Härmälänranta, or green roofs and walls, rain gardens and flood meadows. Nature-based solutions can reduce the adverse effects of climate change, such as heat islands and flooding.
The project will develop a new framework and practical guidelines for the design of nature-based solutions. The project also aims to raise public awareness of nature-based solutions, to contribute to the social debate and decision-making process and to promote their uptake in Europe. The results will be compiled in a guide at the end of the project.
The international project involves the City of Tampere, the University of Tampere, Wild Zone NPO and Finnora Oy from Finland. The project also involves a number of research institutes and other organisations from across Europe. The project will run from 1.9.2025 to 31.8.2029.
