City events and festivals

In the Night of the Museums you can see interesting exhibitions, take part in guided tours, lectures, music, workshops, games, competitions and meet the people that work in the museums and other venues. Organized annually in May in cooperation with Nysse, Visit Tampere and Tamperelainen.

From June to August the City of Tampere offers musical events at different venues around Tampere free of charge. The audience gets to enjoy Finnish instrumental rock, traditional Finnish accordion music, choral singing, acoustic pop music and much more.

The Puistofiesta is an urban event for the whole family where people can try various activities and hobbies. The event is organized annually in August. Share the atmosphere on social media with #Puistofiesta.

Tampere was established on 1 October 1779. Tampere celebrates this occasion every year on the first of October and the closest weekend to that date. Events of the day are organised by the city and by numerous third sector actors.

Celebrating the darkest season of the year, Tampere Festival of Light illuminates the streets of Tampere city centre with hundreds of magical light spheres, street projections and exciting light art. Share your atmosphere in social media using the hashtag #Valoviikot

The Christmas Market in Keskustori Central Square offers relaxing moments, merry atmosphere and performances. The many artists and craftspeople present and sell their unique Finnish artworks and products.

Finnish Independence is celebrated on December 6 with poetry reading, live music and a speech. The first Independence Day celebrations were organized by the City of Tampere in 1927 to mark the 10th anniversary of Finland's independence.

Children's Independence Day Ball is suitable for the whole family, especially for 4–12 year olds. At the event you can admire dance performances, participate in art workshops and dance yourself.

Tampere Biennale introduces the most important phenomena in Finnish contemporary music, leading composers and the latest compositions. Organised biennially in April.

Tampere Jazz Happening is an annual festival and takes place at the turn of October. The programme highlights the influence of concert, rock and ethnic music on the development of modern jazz. This flagship of modern jazz was founded in 1982.

Every other summer Tampere celebrates the diversity of the human voice at the festival of choral and ensemble singing. Since 1975 in the international atmosphere of the festival, old and new music, choir tradition and for instance beatboxing all coexist in harmony. In addition, workshops and free concerts draw audience interested in vocal music from around the world.
