As a customer of the City of Tampere Employment and Growth Services, you may be eligible for unemployment benefits for full-time independent study. You can apply for the place independently, but cannot start your studies until the City of Tampere Employment and Growth Services have assessed the impact of your prospective studies on your employment. Your studies can be supported by unemployment benefit only if the intended studies are considered to enhance your chances in the job market significantly.

Independent study option can be applied also to recruitment training programmes which search and train employees in cooperation with companies and/or employment agencies.
During independent studies you will have job seeking conversations just like any other job seeker. Job seeking conversations are organised to update your employment plan and determine your job seeking obligations If you are planning to study while on unemployment benefits, always contact your OMA coach first.

As a customer of the City of Tampere Employment and Growth Services, you can take up part-studies while on unemployment benefits. However, in spite of your part-time studies, you need to continue your employment search as was agreed in your employment plan and be prepared to accept a full-time job.

Employment and Growth Services will evaluate the scope of your studies and give a statement to the payer, i.e. Kela or unemployment fund. If you are planning to study, always contact your OMA coach first.

As a customer of the City of Tampere Employment and Growth Services, you can take up short-term studies while on unemployment benefits. Short-term studies can improve your chances of getting a job. You can receive unemployment benefit for the duration of short-term studies if you are at least 25 years old and the studies last a maximum of six months. However, during your short-term studies, you must apply for a job in accordance with what is agreed in your employment plan and be ready to accept a full-time job. The studies are not an acceptable reason to refuse a job. Employment and growth services always find out the extent of your studies and always give a statement about them to the payer, like Kela or the unemployment fund. If you are planning studies, always contact your personal OMA coach first.

If you have an apprenticeship agreement, you will train and study while working. In other words, you will receive a salary and accrue work experience. Apprenticeship training will include some theoretical education at an educational institute. An apprenticeship is a fixed-term employment contract, in which an employer trains the employee. Through an apprenticeship, you can complete any upper secondary vocational education and training or individual vocational qualification units. Also entrepreneurs can do apprenticeship training and it is an option for additional education and training, too.

Accreditation of learning demonstrated in some other manner is possible if you are a customer of the City of Tampere Employment and Growth Services and participating in pay-subsidised employment, work try-out or rehabilitative work experience. Accreditation of learning demonstrated in some other manner means that you can complete part of your vocational education and training during the work period. 

The goals and duration for the accreditation of learning demonstrated in some other manner are always individually drafted. Competence-based partial qualification may either, as such, prove to be a path to working life or encourage you to complete your vocational education and training. Ask your OMA coach if the accreditation of learning demonstrated in some other manner is possible for you.

If you are in-between jobs or working but at risk of becoming unemployed, you may qualify for labour market training. The training is mainly vocational education and training, for instance instruction in preparation of vocational upper secondary or further vocational qualification or vocational further education and training. Labour market training is free and entitles you to the same benefits you would receive when unemployed and includes possibly also compensation for travel and maintenance costs.

Recruitment training is a form of labour market training and an excellent job-search tool while learning the job in the workplace. Recruitment training programmes search and train employees in cooperation with companies and/or employment agencies. You will learn the skills employers need right now.

The content and duration of training will be flexibly tailored to meet both the trainee and the employer’s needs. The goal is to find a job for the person participating in the training programme. You can apply for the training if you are unemployed, at risk of being unemployed or have a fixed term work contract.
Recruitment training will be organised in various fields and industries for many different jobs. Ask your OMA coach about current recruitment training programmes and your options.
