Finland's largest clothing exchange event sets up the stage for used clothes in Tampere Hall

SWAP! will be held in Tampere Hall on Saturday 14 October from 11 am to 5 pm. The reception of clothes opens on the previous day, and the Saturday queues can be avoided by swapping clothes into vouchers in advance. The event is organised by the non-profit sustainable development company EcoFellows Ltd. and Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto Oy in co-operation with Tampere Hall.

At SWAP!, clothes change hands - not money. Milla Lähteenmäki shows off her SWAP! finds at last year's event.

The idea of the clothing exchange event SWAP! is simple: for one piece of clothing you bring to the event, you get one SWAP! voucher that you can use for buying one piece of clothing from the exchange area. This year, the event is a unique opportunity to make finds from Tampereen Ooppera costume selection as well.

Making clothes takes up a huge amount of resources that are wasted if a piece in good condition goes to waste. Project Manager Sanna Teinilä from Ecofellows Ltd, responsible for organising SWAP!, explains that the clothes brought to the event will get even years more lifetime.

–  The event gives used clothes in good condition the visibility they deserve. We want to show everyone that it is a good idea to look for used clothes instead of new ones, and it does not mean compromising on quality.

Avoid queues by swapping your clothes into vouchers in advance

Clothes for exchange are collected in advance at Tampere Hall on Friday 13 October from 2 pm to 6 pm. The number of clothes brought in is not limited, but the maximum number of vouchers is 10. On Saturday, advance exchangers can access the clothing exchange area directly through their own entrance lane. On Saturday, if you bring clothes, you will go through the reception point, where you can also get your three attendee SWAP! vouchers free of charge. All traffic flows through the main entrance of Tampere Hall.

Only clothes, shoes and accessories in good condition are accepted at the event. Clothes that do not find a new owner at the event will be delivered to the recycling centres of the Pirkanmaan kierrätys- ja työtoiminta ry in Lentola, Lielahti and Nekala through Nextiili ry, based in Lielahti.
