Schools and educational institutions in the city of Tampere are preparing for the effects of the strike in traffic

The strike of the Auto- and Transport workers (AKT ry) started on 1 March 2023. The strike has affected the public transport schedules in Tampere. If the strike had continued, it would have affected trips to schools in Tampere from Monday 6 March since schools and educational institutions return to everyday life after the winter vacation.

The strike has ended on Friday, March 3. Bus service will gradually return to normal from Saturday, March 4 to Monday, March 6.

The lines that normally operated during the strike were  2, 7, 8, 17, 28, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 47, 58, 60, 63-67, 82, 86, 95X, 95KUTSU and 103 (operated by TKL, Valkeakoski Liikenne and Vekka Group). Lines 6, 12, 39A and 41 operated part of the shifts. Services on other lines had been suspended due to the strike. Tram lines 1 and 3 operate normally.

There may also be interruptions in the operation of PALI buses, which are reflected in school transport. However, Tuomi Logistiikka primarily aims to take care of the Paliroutes transporting school children during the strike. There are 1,182 primary education students in Tampere who receive a transport benefit, and taxi rides for the majority of them operate normally. It is possible for a guardian whose child is entitled to school transportation and who is transported by the guardian themselves in this situation, to claim mileage compensation for the trip.

In Tampere, the length of trips to school for basic education hardly exceeds five kilometers, with the exception of the Kämmenniemi school path, where students are basically covered by the transport benefit to the nearest school. The school transport benefit does not apply to pupils studying in special classes.

If necessary, you can get more information about getting to school from the principal of your school.

(Edit: 4 th March, 2023 at 15:26, the strike ended)
