Haihara Art Centre residency

The residence of the Tampere City Public Cutural Services is located in Kaukajärvi, Haihara Manor, about 10 kilometres from the centre of Tampere. Several Finnish and foreign visual artists, writers and performing arts professionals work in Haihara throughout the year, including international guests from the Tampere Artists' Association, the German Cultural Centre, the Tartu branch of the Estonian Writers' Union, the Hungarian Cultural Centre and the Pirkanmaa Dance Centre. Funding for residencies can be applied for from the Arts Promotion Centre or regional arts councils, for example.

The residence and its surroundings are an ideal place for professionals from different artistic disciplines to work creatively in peace and quiet. Our aim is primarily to provide artists with space to concentrate on their own work. However, we hope that artists will share their experiences and skills, for example by organising an event in collaboration with those involved in urban culture.

Residential accommodation

The artists' residence is housed in a log house in the grounds of Haihara Manor, which is over a hundred years old. Despite its age, the house is well maintained and modernly equipped. The Haihara Art Centre's residency offers one or two people from the same artistic field the opportunity to work together at the same time. Unfortunately, the residence is not wheelchair accessible.

The residence has a spacious living and working room, a small separate study/bedroom, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. Performing arts professionals can rent a rehearsal space in the manor house, except during the summer season. The house also has internet access and a wireless network. Right next to the residence, during the summer season, there is a café, a crafts shop, theatre and puppet shows, art exhibitions and various events.

The building is surrounded by a slightly wild garden with berry bushes. Several of our artists-in-residence are inspired by the natural environment of the Haihara region. From the window you can watch the life of squirrels, birds, hedgehogs and other animals in the courtyard. From the garden gate you can go outdoors to the nearby forests and parks. The clear-water Kaukajärvi with its swimming area is only a few hundred metres away. On the other side is the Isolammenpuisto park, at the heart of which is a quiet forest pond. Kaukajärvi's services, shops and restaurants are about a kilometre away.

To apply

There is a continuous application process for the residency. Professional artists can apply for a residency by submitting a free application including a work plan and CV. Applications should be sent by e-mail to [email protected].
