The new bus service's visual identity unveiled – contest for name also announced

In 2028, Tampere will introduce a new type of bus service that utilizes methods familiar from trams. The aim is to combine the smoothness of trams with bus services. The new buses will have their own visual identity, clearly distinguishing them from other Nysse transport services. Until now, the buses have been referred to as super buses, but we are now looking for new name suggestions in a naming competition.

The purple color makes the bus easy to spot at the bus stop. All entrances are equipped with ticket machines, so you can board from any door.

One of the key changes in the new bus service is the familiar tram payment system: passengers can board at any door. This speeds up stop times and makes it easier to stay on schedule.

"Because the operating methods differ from the current ones, it is important that the new buses stand out clearly from other Nysse buses," says Riikka Salkonen, Customer Success Manager at Nysse.

The new buses have been designed with their own color scheme, icons, and graphic elements, which are visible in both the overall look and the details. Purple has been chosen as the main color, which is one of Nysse's brand colors and combines the blue of bus transport and the red of trams – just as the new service combines the best of both systems.

The first super buses will start operating in 2028 on routes 7 Käräjätörmä–Tesoma–Kalkku–Keskusta–Hakametsä–Linnainmaa and 8 Haukiluoma–Tesoma–Keskusta–Kaukajärvi–Annala, Kaipanen.

Take part in the naming contest

Although the visual appearance has already been decided, the name of the service can still be influenced. The working name has been "superbus" for the time being, but new name suggestions are welcome. You can suggest a name for the service until March 8, 2026, on the Nysse website at nysse.fi/nimi.

We hope that the name suggestions will reflect the special features of the service:

  • Punctual and reliable: Buses run frequently, so there is no need to keep an eye on the timetable.
  • Easy to use: All doors can be used for boarding. You can pay for your journey in the same way as on other Nysse vehicles, and familiar ticket machines can be found at every door.
  • Modern and comfortable: The buses are new, stylish, and electric – environmentally friendly and quiet.
  • Service above all else: The bus is more than just a long articulated bus. The goal is a smooth and pleasant public transport experience that is easily accessible.

The final name of the service will be decided by a panel that includes representatives from Nysse and the marketing company i2. The name will be announced at the end of March. Five Nysse gift cards worth €50 will be raffled off among all those who participated in the naming competition.
