The City of Tampere has been given Selkokeskus (The Finnish Centre for Easy Language) Selko symbol for the website. A page or publication can receive the symbol if its language, layout and images follow the principles of plain language.
The content, vocabulary and structure of plain language have been adapted to make it more readable and understandable.
Easy Finnish is aimed at people who have difficulty reading or understanding ordinary language. Its purpose is to help everyone to access information and participate. In Finland, approximately 11-14% of the population needs Easy Finnish.
The previous Tampere.fi user survey asked for Easy Finnish pages. The aim is to make the city's communication more accessible. This is also in line with the city's equality and non-discrimination plan and the equality underlying the strategy.
The City of Tampere aims to use as clear a general language as possible on all its websites.
The first translations of the city's website have been done by the city's communication experts Tuuli Oinonen and Johanna Kurela.
