Most of the Adult Education Centre’s courses start in week 3, but courses of varying lengths will continue to begin right up until late May and early June.
This spring’s offering includes around 890 courses in areas such as knowledge, arts, crafts, languages, and health promotion. About 200 courses start in January alone, and the last ones will be held in early June.
Principal Maija-Liisa Gröhn expects the new term to foster community and hopes that everyone will now find something meaningful to do. Gröhn emphasizes that the Adult Education Centre is not just about individuals, but about communities.
– A person who feels well brings well-being to their close circle and the communities they are part of. When you have the energy, you can help others and share your own expertise.
Gröhn is concerned about growing loneliness in society. Studying at the Adult Education Centre is communal, even though everyone can pursue their own goals.
– I believe that doing things together in courses offers experiences of being seen and of meaningfulness, which help reduce loneliness.”
The course selection will be updated throughout the term, and registration remains open continuously.
There are also more than 20 free general lectures this spring. At Sampola in Tampere, lectures cover topics from photography and the European Union to ancient DNA. At Ylöjärvi Library Leija, the finance lecture series focuses on budgeting and saving. The public lectures are taught in Finnish.
